The New Zealand Morepork (Ruru) The morepork is a small, compact, dark-brown owl. Its striking yellow to yellowish-green eyes are set into two facial disks either side of a small sharply hooked bill. The back feathers are dark-brown spotted sparsely with off-white. The breast is dark-brown variably streaked with cream and brown through to rufous. The legs are feathered legs down to the yellow feet.

Working with the wonderful volunteers at the Kāpiti Coast Biodiversity Project, Anne and the Biodiversity team devised this idea to tell people about all the incredible native wildlife hidden on the Kāpiti Coast north of Wellington.

From Pukerua Bay to the great expanses of Queen Elizabeth Park through to Whareroa Farm, the not-so-obvious wildlife needed a little promotion to assert themselves in their own environment.

David studied graphic design at the Wellington School of Design in the 1980's. He then worked for Wellington Newspapers as a graphic designer and illustrator for many years. Moving on from print media he spent nearly 11 years as a digital artist working on special effects at Weta Digital Studios. He started as a rotoscope artist, then as a texture artist, helping to bring 3D virtual objects to life.

Today Wellington Today launches a service to help promote local jobs and local business opportunities to people across the Wellington Region. The cost to have your job or business opportunity/franchise opportunity promoted through Wellington Today is just $100+GST and the adverts can be promoted through a digital marketing network which includes the Wellington Today website and multiple social media accounts as well as a weekly digital magazine in total with over 40,000+ followers across the greater Wellington region. Each of these followers has on average 338 connections - meaning if everyone liked and share your advert your potential reach is greater than the population of the region*

Expressions of Interest open for Waitohi café

Wellington City Council is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the café at Waitohi, Johnsonville’s new community hub.

Waitohi brings together a new, larger library, with on-site café; Keith Spry Pool; Johnsonville Community Centre; and Whānau Manaaki Kindergarten; with access through to Memorial Park via a new outdoor landscaped area.

The Council is looking to partner with a café operator to help achieve its vision for Waitohi – Te Manawa o te raki: the vibrant heart of the north.

Waitohi is currently under construction and is due to open next summer. The Council expects more than half a million people will visit Waitohi each year.

Café operators have until 5pm, 9 May 2019 to respond to the EOI.
