The Hurricanes Poua are delighted to announce the appointment of Fusi Feaunati as the new Head Coach for Super Rugby Aupiki 2025.
“I am deeply honoured and excited to take on the role of Head Coach for the Hurricanes Poua in 2025,” Fusi said.
Fusi has been a stoic advocate for women’s rugby during his time as Head Coach for provincial sides, the Wellington Pride and Manawatū Cyclones.
“This role represents a significant opportunity to create alignment between the players and the club. It’s about building connections between the women, the club and the community, so that we can embrace what it means to be Poua.”
Feaunati is in the middle of his second campaign as Head Coach for the Wellington Pride. He’ll see out the 2024 Farah Palmer Cup season, before turning his attention to the Super Rugby Aupiki competition.
When asked how he sees his time with the Pride influencing his new role, Feaunati remarked,
“I see this as creating a real synergy between the two competitions. It’s about advocating for women in rugby and creating an environment where the players feel empowered. I will challenge them; I’ll challenge them because at the end of the day we want to be bettering ourselves and our position in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition.”
Feaunati is no stranger to the Poua environment, having served as Assistant Coach during the 2021 and 2022 Super Rugby Aupiki seasons. He adds this latest title to a long list of credentials, having been involved in coaching for over 22 years.
Hurricanes General Manager of Rugby, Tony Philp said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Fusi on board. His proven commitment to growing pathways for women in rugby promises a transformative era for our Poua. We’re excited to see what Fusi, and the team can achieve in the 2025 Super Rugby Aupiki season.”
