Honouring the ANZAC Legacy in Waitangirua

As we commemorate ANZAC Day, Anzac flags are again flying in Waitangirua.

These flags were a creative collaboration between Jane Comben, the Waitangirua Village Community, and Bill Inge from the Porirua City Council, as part of last year’s village planning initiative.

The flags feature the timeless poppy, a symbol of remembrance and hope, along with bilingual phrases from the Ode to Remembrance.

"Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātau | We shall remember them."

Honouring and remembering the sacrifices made by those who served in the military is essential for preserving collective memory and instilling gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today. Anzac Day in Wellington captures the spirit of remembrance, uniting people to honour the memory of those brave individuals who faced adversity and danger with extraordinary courage. It serves as a reminder of our shared history and the importance of learning from the bravery, resilience, and dedication of those who served. Anzac Day stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of sacrifice and the resilience of the human spirit.
