When it comes to corporate headshots, lighting is key to creating professional images, and thank goodness, we all have seen the shift towards a more natural, authentic look for our portraits.
I had a wonderful headshot session the other day with a board of directors. It took place at the Rydges Hotel, next to Wellington Airport. They had all come together from around the country, and the session needed to take place during their lunch break. They had a great room booked out for the day-long meeting, but there were no windows. I hadn’t worked at the Rydges before, so I packed up my mobile lighting kit and headed off for the session, ready to work magic in a confined space with no natural light. On arrival, I immediately spotted a great location in the lobby, with natural light (yesss!). It made me realise the need to highlight the massive benefits of using natural window light for relaxed, warm and professional corporate headshots.
For many corporate photography needs, simply finding that lovely pocket of natural window light in the offices, meeting rooms, or hotel lobby, wherever your team or board meeting might be, can be an excellent option for producing beautiful and flattering headshots.
Window light has a quality that minimises harsh shadows. All you need is one window, it doesn’t even have to be that big, and maybe a well-placed reflector and/or diffuser… You’ll get gorgeous, professional results. Photos with an effortless vibe that allows your warmth and true nature to come through.
I have to say it… Of course! Using an experienced photographer who can find and reflect the right light will help! They will also make you feel at ease and capture your genuine confidence.
So go - embrace the simplicity that is natural light for your next professional headshots.
